Lost Ring? Things To Think Of To Get Your Ring Back (Kingston Ontario)

  • from Kingston (Ontario, Canada)

If You Lost Your Ring? What can you do?

  1. Retrace your steps.
  2. lost your ring at home? Tidy up each room you were in before you noticed it was missing.
  3. Check unusual places. (Like the shower, Or sink drains all over the house) check coat pockets, gloves, hand bags, sweaters and laundry machines, inbetween couch cushions, ect…
  4. For a diamond ring or jewelry item, try turning off the lights and Use a flashlight. Diamond’s will reflect like a mirror when light hits it.
  5. Take a break from looking, re-group, and think about something else (if at all possible) often the place you put your item will come to you when you take your mind off of worrying about it for a while, maybe Ask a friend to lend a fresh pair of eyes to your search.
  6. If your ring is insured, and before you decide to file a claim, call your local Ring Finder specialist. https://theringfinders.com/

If you have not heard about The RingFinders, now’s the time to find one closest to you.The RingFinders.com is a directory of metal detecting specialists with a passion and knowledge for metal detecting. Chances are there is one in your area that you were not completely unaware of.

Ryan and I can be found on the directory, we are detecting specialists with a passion for finding lost items such as cell phones, car keys, and yes, even engagement and wedding rings, or any jewelry for that matter.

Regardless wether you lost your ring at home, or in public, there are some steps to take in order to try and recover your lost item.

  1. Don’t wait to act & remember, the longer you wait the more lost your item becomes.
  2. Retrace your steps. It is important to try and remember as much detail as you can about the time you think you lost your item. (The success rate to find lost items are much higher within the first 24 to 48 hours in our experience, although finding lost items can be found even after several years has passed, however take note that the success rate is much lower in these cases.)
  3. You may wish to contact your local police station, jewellers and pawn shops. Someone may have already turned it in.
  4. If you know about The Ring Finders? Do not hesitate to call us. We love to help & this is what we do.
  5. Lastly if you have exhausted all of the above and still no luck? Replacing a lost ring is a lot easier when you don’t need to pay for it out-of-pocket if all else fails? & If your item is insured, then you can file a claim. I know this doesn’t help to replace the sentimentality of a specific item such as an engagement, or wedding ring, but at the very least the piece itself may be able to get replaced.

So, How much does it cost to hire our services through TheRingFinders.com ?

“Based on our services”.

Whether at home, the park, the beach, swimming, hiking, or almost any other outdoor activity you can think of. If you loose a significant or sentimental piece of jewelry? Then consider contacting us, your RingFinders metal detecting specialists

Cost:

Our detecting service usually work on a reward type basis. Yes we do have a small, non negotiable $40 call out fee. On top of that call out fee, we will work on either a percentage, hourly, or even a reward basis if your item is found and returned.

So what happens if an item cannot be recovered.?

In this scenario, all you would pay for, would be the call out fee of $40, again this is based on our service.

What does the $40 get you.

1st & foremost, the call out fee gets a professional metal detecting specialist to the location where you believe you lost your item.

2nd – we will be brining equipment with us to help assist with the recovery. In many cases we will have somewhere in the range of $1K to $3K in equipment and can be significantly more for water recoveries.

3rd – and even more importantly than brining all the actual gear needed to help find your lost item, we will be bringing years of experience to know how to use the equipment to help recover an item that you are unable to find yourself.

Also remember that we may very well have some distance to travel in order to get to you even before any searching begins. We cover a large area with Kingston being our central location.

I know for Ryan Pugh & I, we will often travel in excess of an hour or more in 1 direction just to get to a clients location. With many successful recoveries. Both Ryan and I will often attend a search together. We do not double the “call out fee” to have both of us on site, even though the customer is getting double the value of the service. So the $40 is to cover expenses and our time that we incur just to get to you so we can help recover an item that we did not loose to begin with. Hence the non negotiable “call out fee”.

If the item is recovered and returned, then a reward should be discussed prior to either of us even leaving our home so that there are no surprises to either party involved once the item is found. We will do our best to work within your budget. We will be asking you several questions to get as much information as possible including what the lost item is worth to you if we should be successful & happen to find it for you?

We are apart of this great organization called The RingFinders, & are here to help. So if you’re in need of a detecting specialist, then don’t hesitate, give us a call today, you’ll be glad you did.

Lost ring in the snow (Found) Kingston Ontario. (2024)

  • from Kingston (Ontario, Canada)

At approximately 8:15PM on January 8th 2024 James had received a call from another RingFinder member by the name of Stephane Coutu in regards to a man by the name of Mohammad, residing in Kingston Ontario, who had just lost his tungsten ring in the snow and was wondering if I would be able to go and help recover the lost ring. Stephane gave me the gentleman’s contact information to reach out to him.

I immediately reached out to Mohammad and told him I would be available the following day in the afternoon to go and help.

After looking at the weather I realized that there was another heavy snowfall expected to arrive sometime overnight and was expected to continue for several days. This would pose a problem for the recovery as I knew that city plow trucks and sidewalk machines would be out in full force and may cause the ring to be more difficult to find by the time I was able to make it over to help Mohammad recover his ring.

I reached out to my ring recovery partner, and now fellow RingFinder Ryan Pugh to see if he was available to go over immediately to help Mohammad out? Thankfully Ryan had his equipment charged up and ready to take on the task.

Ryan called Mohammad and was heading out his door to go meet with Mohammad at exactly 9:27PM that night. at 9:57PM, I received a text from Ryan saying the customer had his ring back.

A quick message to Mohammad revealed he was very happy to have someone get to him so quickly, & thanked me for getting someone out so quickly to him.

Mohammad’s Ring in the snow

Sorry about the pic but the lighting was poor and apparently Ryan’s hands were frozen after this recovery. Here is a link to a a video (short) of Ryan’s recovery.

Welcoming A New Ring Finder

  • from Kingston (Ontario, Canada)

Hi folks, I wanted to take a quick minute to let people know that I have partnered up with a good friend, wicked ring finder, and all round good dude, Ryan Pugh.

Ryan Pugh

Ryan started detecting around the same time I did, (just a few short years ago) As we all know the learning curve to knowing one’s machine can be a daunting task. Many hours spent digging trash, & trying to understand what your machine is trying to tell you. We know it takes time to understand how to detect properly, efficiently, and professionally.

Now after a few years have gone by, both Ryan & I have the confidence in our abilities to help people find their lost items, and have done so successfully on several occasions.

Both Ryan & I have been detecting every chance we get when we are not working, or have family obligations (speaking from my personal experience of course), life can get very busy at times.

Over the past year (2023) I have taken Ryan on several of my ring finder expeditions. Considering we hunt fairly often together, which in turn has resulted in Ryan coming, and helping on several of my ring finder hunts.

Ryan expressed a real interest in helping people recover items they themselves had lost, & yet, could not find. He has expressed interest in joining The RingFinders all season.

Recently with working shift work, going back to school “for work”, running a local metal detecting club, taking care of my 2 year old son, & making time for my wife & family, I have found that although I have been able to attend most of the requests that have come my way, I find I have been calling on Ryan fairly often to help out with some of my recoveries.

Ryan has been outstanding, not only has he been willing and able to take on each request, he is always at the ready to drop what he’s doing to go help someone in need. And that’s not all, Ryan’s success rate is very high to date. I have called on Ryan to make sure our clients get the quick, reliable, & professional service they deserve.

Working as a team this past year has worked out not only to our benefit, but to our customers benefit as well. Therefore it only seemed logical to make it official and team up with Ryan here on The Ring Finders to ensure our areas get the best service possible for any potential future clients.

“Thanks Ryan Pugh, and I look forward to seeing how collaborating as a team will work out for us in our RingFinding adventures”, also, Welcome to the largest team of RingFinders on the planet.

14k Gold, Night Ring Recovery

  • from Kingston (Ontario, Canada)

On December 2nd on my way home from work at approximately 6:30 PM I received a phone call from a woman by the name of Leanne.. Leanne was distraught because she had just lost a 14 karat gold ring her husband had given to her from a vacation they recently took together.

Leanne had been working on their farm putting up Christmas lights along a wooden fence that keeps in some of their horses when she received a phone call from her friend took off her glove to answer her phone and that’s when she realized her ring was LOST.

After scouring the ground Leanne and her husband decided to look up the ring finders online and that’s where she found my number. Now being early December in this part of the country the weather can turn on a dime so I told Leanne I just had to run home quick to pick up some equipment and that I would be right over,

I had to make sure I had my headlamp with me because it gets dark at 5:30 PM these days I arrived at leanne’s farm around 8:00 PM. This is where Leanne and her husband showed me where they had put up Christmas lights and where Leanne had thought she had lost her ring when answering her phone several hours prior.

After listening to leanne’s story I realized that she had started the task of winding Christmas lights around the fence without gloves on to begin with and then she found it got cold quite quickly so she went in the house to go get some gloves.

Leanne was quite certain when she went to go get her gloves that she still had her ring on her finger and she was convinced that the ring had dropped off her finger when she pulled her glove off to answer her Phone.

It was then time to get started, I went to the car to grab my equipment and immediately headed off in the direction of where Leanne had began putting the Christmas lights on the fence when she originally started and was wearing no gloves at all, Leanne a little confused, and convinced that she had dropped her ring in a totally different location to where I was heading, I calmly explained to her that rings rarely drop where their owners think they drop them otherwise she probably would have found it by now and off I went in the opposite direction.

Leanne stuck very close by watching intently as I swung over the ground close to the fence I was taking wide slow swings, ignoring all signals from the machine that represented deeper targets I only wanted surface fines.

The first target of interest to investigate ended up being A USA nickel from the 1960s? I handed the coin to Leanne and continued swinging my machine. The Machine was ringing constantly but all the targets seemed to be below the surface so I ignored them

The second target of interest came just off of the fence onto the gravel driveway very close to where Leanne had started her task of putting up Christmas lights that day.

I pulled out my pinpointer and as soon as I touched the gravel driveway the pinpointer rang loud and clear and with the flick of a leaf of a small weed on the driveway a 14 karat gold ring an emerald on one side and a diamond on the other. was staring me in the face.

As I picked it up and turned around to face Leanne smiling I held my hand out to hers and dropped the ring into her hand. It had only been 5 minutes of detecting in the dark but it was an intense 5 minutes for Leanne.

Leanne was definitely overjoyed and couldn’t stop thanking me as we walked up to the house to take a good look at the ring it was such a good feeling to see somebody so happy and another satisfied customer.

Lost white Gold & Blue Diamond Ring FOUND

  • from Kingston (Ontario, Canada)

On October 29th I had received a phone call from a man by the name of Dave. Dave had been given my contact number by another RingFinder “Stephane Coutu” Stephane unfortunately was unable at the time to take the job and he recommended to Dave that he give me a call.

Anyway, Dave gave me a call and I was able to meet up with him on his property the next morning. October 29th.

When I arrive to his house I was greeted by his wife and Dave himself, who pointed me in the direction of their back yard where they had been raking leaves and figured the ring had slipped off into one of the bags they had filled.

There were 5 bags they had figured it could have fallen into. I figured those bags were a great place to start. I began scanning the outside of the bags with my Nokta Legend, one by one rolling them over and getting every corner, side, bottom, and then tops of the bags. Not a single sound was coming through until I got to the 4th bag.

As I scanned the side of the fourth bag of leaves I was startled with a faint sound coming from my Legend. I went over the area again and again I got a bit better signal the 2nd and third time around, but still not a great one. My machine showing a 45 on the VDI. I rolled the bag over and scanned the other side. I got a much more defined signal somewhere half way up the side of the bag itself. The sound was unmistakably a decent target now.

I looked at Dave and his wife and asked them to please take my phone and to start recording as I emptied the leaves on the patio and started running my pin pointer over the pile of leaves now laying in front of me.

Immediately my pin pointer started beeping at me and as I reached down I felt that there was now a ring in my hand. I turned to look up at Dave and his wife looking in desperation and anticipation to see if I had infact found Dave’s precious ring.

As I stood up I held my hand out and Dave with a huge smile looked and almost tears up (for just a moment) lol. The appreciation of our service from Dave and his wife was expressed and another satisfied customer of the RingFinders was born.

Congratulations on getting your ring back Dave.

Engagement Ring Found “With A Little Bonus”

  • from Kingston (Ontario, Canada)

On May 20th, 2023, at approximately 9:45 AM I received a text from a very distraught Erin, Erin had lost her engagement ring while chasing after her son in her own backyard.

I Immediately went over to the house, I arrived around 10:30 AM and proceeded in asking Erin to explain to me what happened?, and to show me exactly where she thought she had lost her ring. It wasn’t a very large property, and Erin was obviously preoccupied with her 2-year-old boy but managed to point to show me the general area of where she thought she had lost her ring.

I took out my legend metal detector turned it on and preceded sweeping the area slowly, the area was so trashy and signals were coming from every direction I knew I had no choice, if I were going to have any chance at all, I would need to Put the machine on gold mode and discriminate all the numbers from 30 to 60 and from 1 to 10 on the machine, I figured if I did one sweep over The entire property with those settings, it would put me in the general area to where I have normally found gold with my Legend in the past,

I do not like discriminating VDI numbers like this because gold can literally come up as so many different numbers on any machine however for the most part It is pretty safe to say that on the Legend, gold is likely to come up between the numbers 15 to 28. Anyway, setting up my machine like this, gave me a starting point anyway. If this didn’t work then I would go over the area again using all metal mode. The problem was with so many signals coming at me at once if I had put the machine to all metal mode I may be there for days before finding the ring.

I started off by searching the area where Erin had pointed out. , unfortunately I didn’t get a single hit on my legend. As I looked over my shoulder on the nearby gravel driveway something shiny hit my eye. As I walked over to the object, I could see it was ring shaped. I decided to swing my detector over the ring and immediately I got a signal with a VDI number of 16. I picked up the ring and took it over to Erin and confidently showed her that I had found her ring.

Now Erin was very excited for me to have found this ring as indeed it was hers, however, she explained to me that this was another ring that she didn’t know she had even lost yet, lol and that the original engagement ring I was there for in the first place was yet to be found.

She explained to me that the engagement ring had an Opal and diamonds in it. Yet the ring I just found had no stones at all.

I switched gears and decided to go into the backyard where the house had a play structure for her son. I quickly asked Erin if she thought it at all possible that maybe she was playing with her son on or around the play structure before she noticed the ring was missing? She said “ it was definitely possible”

I did a quick sweep with my detector around the play structure and right at the bottom of the slide my machine started making a beep and the VDI number red 18 on the screen. My heart skipped a beat. This is a great number and solid sound on the detector. It’s exactly what I was looking for.

At the bottom of the slide, it was grassy, so I took out my pin pointer, waved it over the area at the bottom of the slide, and immediately I got a hit with my pinpointer.

As I looked in the grass, I could see something shiny. I carefully parted the grass area and found a white gold with six small diamonds and a fairly large Opal stone in the middle,

I called Erin over to have a look and confirm that this time I had in-fact found the proper ring this time. Erin screamed with joy as she placed the ring back on her finger and immediately called her husband to tell him the good news that the ring had been found.

Thank you, Erin, for calling and using my services and allowing me to be the one to put a beautiful smile back on your face, (even if you don’t want to be photographed ha ha ha) I wish you and your future husband all the best in the near future when you start your new lives together.

Myself on the other hand, I don’t mind sharing the smile I had when I was able to hand these 2 rings back to you. Even if you did think only 1 of them were missing. Lol.

Successful Ring Find -RETURN OF THE RING. (Picton Ontario)

  • from Kingston (Ontario, Canada)

On Thursday June 8th 2023 I received A text message from a Paul. Paul was in distress because his mother had just dropped a ring through a brand new deck that Paul had just built her.

Paul

Paul had explained to me that the ring was very sentimental to his mother, and it was given to her by her husband for their 40th wedding anniversary. On June 9th I found myself in the Picton county where paul lived So I called Paul, and asked if it was alright if I swung by to take a look for the ring.

At approximately 1:30 PM. I arrived at the home, was greeted by Paul himself, & in person. After asking Paul roughly where the ring had been dropped he showed me to an small. new deck and pointed to the general vicinity where they thought the ring might be.

I had brought with me my new Nokta legend metal detector Set up my equipment and started detecting under the new built deck.

After just a few minutes I got a decent sound from the detector and my VDI was showing a solid 26 as I look down I saw a small golden shimmer on the ground, so I bent down move to small stone and with my back turned to Mr. Davenport I picked up a small gold ring with a beautiful Ruby stone in the middle of the ring.

Looking Through a magnifying gland

I held the ring tightly in my hand and slowly backed out from underneath the deck. Mr. Davenport was explaining to me how he always wanted to use a metal detector so without hesitation I asked him if he would like to put on my headphones and give it a try himself.

Mr. Davenport had no idea that I was actually holding the ring itself as he slowly swung the detector from side to side listening for any sound. After only about a minute I asked Mr. Davenport to slowly back up and to hand my detector to me, as he handed me my detector I put my hand out towards him he held out his hand and I said here let’s trade my detector for this and I dropped the ring into his hand.

It took him a second or two to realize what I had just handed him, but all of a sudden his face lit up like a Christmas tree and he laughed with absolute joy in his voice as he called me jerk because he realized I let him use the detector when I already had the rig in my hand.

Paul was overjoyed and asked if I would stay until his mother came home and that she would only be a few minutes. About 10 minutes later Paul’s mother pulled into the driveway in her car stepped out, I introduced myself to her and asked her to give me the story behind how she lost her ring

Paul’s mother-in-law explained to me that the ring had been given to her by her late husband and that it was very important ring to her with a lot of sentimental value. As she told me the story I could see that she was getting extremely emotional and that the ring signified many memories for her and her late husband. So I put my hand out and I said if I were to drop the ring in your hand it would mean a lot wouldn’t it and she held out her hand and they dropped the ring into it.

Pause mother took a few seconds to realize that I had actually just dropped the ring into her hand and she had been reunited with her ring once again. Paul’s mother was at a loss of words and became very emotional about a minute went by she looked at me and said boy you work fast and then step towards me and gave me a great big hug.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, it’s almost an indescribable feeling when you see pure joy and happiness on the face of somebody who thought they have lost something of such sentimental value forever,

and then all of a sudden get reunited with it.

Lost & Found Diamond Ring on Amherst Island. (2022)

  • from Kingston (Ontario, Canada)

& Becoming a part of the worlds best Ring Finder community .

Hello Everyone, I just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself, my name is James Mathias, & I have a strong passion for metal detecting. Last year in 2022 I had applied to become a part of “The Ring Finders” team.

Unfortunately, when I applied last season I needed A full year of time as a detectorist in order to be accepted as an elite Ring Finder. Unfortunately at the time I had only had approximately 7 or 8 months of experience. This posed a problem so I was not allowed to join the team (yet)

( here is a Ring I found in early 2023 before the snow came.)

Sliver (925) ring
Ring after it was all cleaned up

To be honest I completely understood the reasoning behind the decision not to have me join at the time, however, being it is now 2023 & I now have a full year behind me, I decided to try and sign up to the organization once again.

This time I have been accepted and am now a full member to the team and anyone that has lost valuable Items between Belleville Ontario to Brockville Ontario is now able to reach me through the ring Finders website, here as well, and through the South Eastern Ontario Metal Detecting Club at the following website address https://seomdclub.ca/

I am super excited to get started with the Ring Finders because I have been following others in the organization and reading their success stories, and seeing pictures of happy clients from all over the world that have been reunited with their special treasures due to all the great detectorists throughout the RingFinders website and I want to do the same for people in my area.

I have reunited a couple rings with their rightful owners before and it is an incredible feeling when you see their face looking at a sentimental item they thought was lost for ever, it’s simply indescribable and needs to be witnessed to fully understand. Here is a link to a story about my first ring recovery.

Lost Ring Kingston Ontario… Found

Hello everyone, my name is James Mathias. I am from Kingston, Ontario, Canada.

I am excited to have joined the many Detectorists here with The RingFinders,  so that I too can put my skills, and equipment to good use, and help those feeling down because they have lost that special item.

It happened for the first time this past summer, where I was able to help someone at a nearby local beach recover  her grandmother’s wedding ring.  The feeling of helping someone out and the look of pure happiness when I found the ring and reunited it again with its owner, was a feeling that’s hard to put into words.

I look forward to repeating the experience and sharing my stories here on this blog site. if anyone has any questions regarding a lost item in my area, please do not hesitate to call or text me, I’d be happy to help.
