Natural Gold Nugget Ring Returned the day it was lost.

I’ll let the happy reunited owner of the ring tell the story.

“This past Saturday I was helping a co-worker build a fence in his yard. Several hours into the project we stopped for a break. I pulled off my gloves and walked to my water bottle. No more than 30 seconds had passed since taking off my gloves when I noticed a weight differential on the hand where I wear a custom, 1 ounce Gold nugget ring, made in Alaska and given to me by my Grandfather after graduating from college. He has since passed away. The ring, a token of the affection he had for me. Upon realizing the ring was not on my finger a fear coursed through my whole body. Maybe you know it. It’s the feeling you get when you lose your wallet or any other valuable possession. It is a horrible feeling. The ring had come off of my sweaty hand when I pulled it from the glove. I immediately let my friend know it was gone. Also helping with the fence were his son and neighbor. We spent the next 3 hours on our hands and knees searching. The search quadrant where I had been was not big. We were incredulous at being unable to find it. At the end of the 3 hour search, I gave up and started mentally preparing myself for the loss. Needless to say, I could not rationalize or minimize the loss away and I was feeling beyond terrible. I started going over what I would tell family members when they most certainly would ask why I was not wearing the family heirloom, which I never take off. At this point my friends son suggested I call an expert (Gerry) who he found doing a simple google search for “metal detectors,” to consult on what the best course of action would be. I was not optimistic. My thought was, if 4 people searching for 3 hours in a small area could not find it, then who could? Nonetheless I called Gerry. Right away I could tell by the questions he was asking he knew what he was talking about. I scheduled a time later that day for him to come over with his equipment and perform a targeted search. To me, this was akin to throwing up a “hail mary.” Fast forward two hours and Gerry arrived. Right off the bat I could tell he was a good person. He showed empathy, explained his process, went over the area with me, got a description of the ring and went to work. A small spark of hope was ignited. No more than 15 minutes later HE FOUND IT! To say I was ecstatic and overcome with joy does not even come close to describing the elation. After giving Gerry a bear hug and attempting to express my thanks verbally, the ring was safely back on my finger. We visited for another 15-20 minutes, getting to know one other. Gerry gave me advice on how to prevent this happening in the future, which I have already implemented. I imagine all this situations are different and have their own set of challenging variables but in my case Gerry came through for me and in extension, my family. My thanks to him in unending and I will not forget the service he provided. Of the many takeaways I gathered from the situation, perhaps the most salient point is, there are professionals out there who know what they are doing and can help in this sort of a situation. If you lose something, don’t just write it off or give up hope. Don’t struggle on your own. Give Gerry a call and consult with him. His personal and business integrity are unflappable and he will give it to you straight.  Thanks, Gerry! Words alone do justice to communicate my gratitude.”

Best,   Kyle S.

For once, it is the police who needed a hand and I was the guy with the right gear for the task.  Officer Karen H of Boise Police Department was enjoying some free time with her son when she realized her necklace was missing the one item that meant the most to her.  The sacred religious pendant her mother gave her.

One good thing about the police, they know how to collect data for search.  She had photos of the item, googled the area and circled the most likely place to start the investigation.  When you are told it is at a soccer field, those little tips become quite helpful and it paid off in saved time.

After some strategic West/East grids of area making sure coil was overlapping with exact precision, the detector responded with the tone I had expected.  Sure enough, there it lay in the green grass just below eyesight.

A quick pic with the cell phone and email off to her to confirm…YES it is the piece she was missing.

Here is her testimonial:

“While playing with my children during a Fourth of July celebration I was heartsick to realize I had just lost the l Miraculous Medal pendant given to me by my aunt who had passed away. After spending three mornings searching through the grass on my hands and knees I finally contacted Gerry who located this sentimentally valuable item within hours of our contact!”

Snow White Gold Ring Lost & Returned

from Boise (Idaho, United States)

Zack just got married and was doing a photo shoot in the beautiful white snow at the lake with his new white.  Well as he did the famous Leap into the Air picture for the photographer, he felt the ring slide off his hand.  They searched for hours and nothing.  Went back to Boise, rented a detector and returned the next day.  They dug all kinds of targets and still nothing.

Gerry gets the call and meets Zak up there to see the area and realize the situation.  I could feel the heartbreak in his voice and was not sure if it was cold or the loss of the custom made ring.  With no time to spare I start a search in the dead center of their old search area.  Not even a minute into the hunt I get the right tone I was expecting and could tell is was something of the right size too.

A few kicks into the snow and there flips out a ring and at the same time a whoop of joy.

Baseball Field Steals the Ring – Metal Detectorist Hits a Home Run

Monica called with a soft voice and tremble in her speech.  Could I come and try to find her lost engagement ring?  A short discussion and hours later, I was at the ball field swinging away…not at the ball, but the coil across the field.  This was not an easy task and actually took a few visits.  Luckily the baseball field was only 15 minutes from my place, so getting there was not a big issue.  Getting there when nobody is using it was.

On my 3rd visit and early Sunday morning I had about gave up when one last surface target signal perked my attention and there it was.  A couple calls later she is holding the ring in her hand and all smiles.

Thanks Monica for believing in Ring Finders and Gerry’s Detectors.

Lost Car Keys in Idaho’s fresh snow. Found with metal detector by Gerry McMullen

from Boise (Idaho, United States)

Boise, Idaho is a beautiful place in late December and today brought us 4 inches of new snow.

Jeanette was walking down the porch stairs to go start her car and slipped in the fluffy white stuff.  Up in the air and away the keys go, across the yard maybe but nobody know.  She looks for some time and can’t find a thing as you know a fob of keys can easily hide in deep fresh snow.

Her sister who is visiting for the holidays looked me up online and called.  What else would a guy be doing with his metal detector on the evening Eve of Christmas Eve?

Luckily she only lived 2 miles from me and so the drive there took longer than the actual hunt.

I searched the area she thought they’d be and nothing, so I checked the other side of the porch and the trusty Fisher Gold Bug-2 screamed of metal close by.

As I handed them to her a joy and tear was about to appear.

No, not Saint Nick..just another good deed from Gerry’s Detectors… Ho Ho Snow.

Lost family heirloom diamond & gold ring in Boise, Idaho. I Found & Returned it

from Boise (Idaho, United States)

I could tell by the pantic broken speech in her voice something was seriously wrong.  On a walk with the dog the day before on a Fall day in Boise, Idaho Barbara slipped, fell and it was gone..  She explained to me, someone might have found it as she had rented a metal detector the day before, but no such luck.  After all, the walking path was not that wide, but at the point she fell it was steep with loose rocks and recent fall leaves making a little slippery.

The stunning diamond ring was actually many pieces of family jewelry past down to her and made into one gorgeous and stunning piece of art.  She could not live with herself if she did not find it and so I was the last hope, a professional with many years of metal detecting experience.

This ring was bigger than most so I new it would not register the same on my detector.  I needed to pay attention to tones that were higher than normal for the detector and also watch the depth meter while only going after targets near the surface.

After 10 minutes I recovered a signal that I was sure to be the ring.  You should have seen the stress let lose from her body as Barbara let out a big sigh or relief and then a huge glowing smile came from her face.

We are both smiles as I just handed the priceless heirloom back to Barbara.

Lost Hearing Aid at the family farm is found and returned by Gerry McMullen

Certainly not the call I normally get.  But since I enjoy a challenge with metal detector and I know them well, lets see what happens.hear4

Think you are good with a metal detector? Try to find a Hearing Aid & you’ll soon find out most detectors won’t pick it up.
Tom was cleaning some brush & debris from the side of a barn, when he awoke a nest of wasps.  Swatting at them as they swarmed his head and back just made things worse, so he quickly abandoned the area and ran into the barn.  It was an hour later when he realized his hearing aid on one side was missing.

Realizing a metal detector expert would be a better option than purchasing another $800 hearing aid, Tom called and we discussed the details.

Luckily I was able to bring 3 detectors to the site and found out two of them did not work. I had to use Tom’s other hearing aid to tune the Fisher Gold Bug-2 in before I started.

Many beeps later, I was looking down at the gravel drive way as my detector gave a beeping response.
I called Tom over and told him to look down.  He still could not see it and I understood why.  As you view the photos, you’ll see how easy it was to miss (hardly no metal at all) and the same colored background.

I saved Tom $800 and I hope to save some future hunters knowing the right detector for the task.

Triton Wedding Band Returned to Owner – Found – by Gerry McMullen

philipaPhilip called me from work and was somewhat upset since he had lost his wedding band in a local volley ball court the day before.  We discussed the situation and I wanted him to be comfortable working with me and asked for him to look me up on Facebook before he gave any other details. Later, he called back and was feeling good about letting me know of the exact location (as he was at work) and which court it was in Boise, Idahophilipb

An hour later I had his ring in my hand and was speaking with him on my cell phone.  Since he was still at work, I decided to meet him  there and returned the ring back to an extremely happy stranger.
