Steve lost his wedding band while cleaning up yard debris from the recent ice storm. Over the phone the potential loss areas seemed reasonable for a search but unfortunately the exact location was mostly unknown. When we surveyed the 4 main work sites, the 20′ diameter x 4′ high brush pile, and accounted for transiting to/from sites, the area covered approximately 1/2 acre; possibly a 3+ hr search. I was thinking I should have packed a lunch… fortunately Joanie, his wife, had made homemade brownies!
For a rental detector with the typical small coil and generally limited capabilities the task would seem impossible but with my Tesoro 3″ x 18″ clean-sweep coil the odds improved considerably. Steve suggested primary, secondary, and tertiary locations given the amount of work at each location. The large area of leaves at the primary location was the perfect combination for loss due to wetness and poor visual search conditions so that is where I started. Thankfully, our hunch was correct and the large search coil made for a relatively quick find.
A successful ring find & return always makes the long road trip more enjoyable… Thank you Steve & Joanie for the good day. Oh, did I mention the delicious brownies!
