In-Hee was waiting at the bus stop in Sunnyvale, in the Palo Alto-Mountain View-San Jose area. At one point, he reached down to brush the dust off his pants. A few brisk movements and he saw his white gold wedding ring fly off his finger into the thick clumps of fescue grass that lined the street. He searched for a couple of hours but could not find his ring. Then he searched online for metal detector rentals and found TheRingFinders. I made it up to the bus stop just a few hours after he lost the ring.

Take a look at the photos below: The grass clumps were THICK! I was unable to use my large metal detector, instead having to search around and through each clump with my handheld pinpointer. This meant a lot of crawling around on my hands and knees. Fortunately, unlike some public areas, the ground had very little trash: in the first half hour all we found were two pieces of aluminum foil, a penny, and a dozen large staples holding down the irrigation hoses. All of these signals were on the ground surrounding the clumps of grass.

Then, almost to the end of the area where In-Hee thought he might have been, I got the very first signal from inside a clump. It was a faint signal, hard to repeat, but when it did repeat, it was his ring, buried deep inside the clump. As you can see from the photos, it was impossible to find visually!

In-Hee was happy to get his ring back. This is how we like to wrap up ring searches!
