Platinum wedding band found in Denver, CO parking lot

Chris's platinum wedding band

Sunday night December 4, I am sitting in my bed reading my favorite metal detecting magazine when I hear our phone ring at 10:30 pm. My wife’s mother was expected to call that evening so I assumed that that was who was calling. Within a few seconds I hear my wife walking up the stair talking on the phone. Diane hands me the phone and says it is somebody who has lost a ring. I answer the phone and Chris Tatum is on the other end, he is in the parking lot of a pizzeria where he has just lost his ring. He tells me that he has searched the area around his car but cannot find his ring and was wondering if I could come out that night and look for the ring. There are a couple inches of freshly fallen snow covering the parking lot and the temperature is 11 degrees. I realize that timing is critical because this parking lot will more than likely be plowed first thing in the morning. I let Chris know that I will be at his location in about a half an hour.

I get dressed, start getting my equipment together and then I have to explain to my wife why I am heading out of the house at 10:45 with my metal detectors while snow falling in bitterly cold temperatures. But we both agree that this search has to occur now so out the door I go.

I arrived at the pizzeria and introduce myself and Chris explains how he was wiping snow off his driver’s seat when he heard his platinum wedding band hit the asphalt parking lot. It was quite obvious where he and his wife had searched for the ring without any luck. I prepped my Whites XLT with Bigfoot coil and began my search. I began my search over the areas that they had searched by eyeballing the site. Soon I expanded my search beyond our original search area, still no luck. By this time my hands are numb and I need to get my gloves out. I continue my search beside a concrete wall that is loaded with steel reinforcing where I heard the definite sound of a ring come from my XLT. I carefully dug through the snow and got my hands on Chris’ ring. The ring laying under 3 inches of snow 20 feet away from where I had expected it to be. This search took only 20 minutes but it was a pretty intense 20 minutes due to conditions.

Ring found in yard near Longmont, Colorado

July 1st, 2011 by

Marshall Lipps lost his platinum wedding ring while doing yard work in the spring.  He had trimmed some ornamental grasses and bushes and taken the clippings to a composting pile towards the back of the property. Since they live on a small acreage the ring could have been along a sizable path or someplace not thought of. Marshall even went to a rental place and rented a metal detector twice in an attempt to recover his ring. But he was not able to locate the ring using the rental detector.

Marshall then came upon the “Ring Finders” site and contacted me to assist in the search for his ring. By now it had been three weeks since he had lost his ring. Marshall and I walked the area where he was working and talked about what it was he was doing along with a demonstration of his actions.

I set out the search for Marshall’s ring searching the area of the ornamental grasses and the path to the compost pile. I ended up finding it near the compost pile but in an area that wasn’t expected as he didn’t recall being quite that far to the side of the pile. Marshall was happy to see his ring, but his wife was even happier.

Ring recovered on Mar 20, 2011.

Lost Platinum wedding ring search in Danbury CT

January 13th, 2011 by

On 1/12 i received a call from a man named Tim from Danbury ct who lost his platinum wedding ring while throwing his Christmas tree out.Tim told me he went out to the sporting good store and bought a metal detector and him and his wife spent 4 hours looking for the ring and could not find it.

The Danbury area was just hit with a massive snow storm that ended earlier in the day up to 27 inch’s of snow.So I head out a few min’s after i got the call. I Got over to Tim’s home around 9:10pm. Let’s just say the snow was deep over my knees good thing i brought my fishing waders with me.

Tim was not sure where the ring came off but was sure he had it on when he took the tree out. Tim throw the tree of the 2nd floor balcony so i started my search in the area around the balcony i could see where the tree landed and where he walk dragging the tree about 150 to 200 yards to the dumpster. I spent about 25 min’s grid searching the back area i was sure the ring was not in this area. Started to walk down the road scanning the snow bank along the side as we walked to the dumpster. Nothing there. We get to the area of the dumpster and Tim tells me there was a car parked in front to it and a truck to the other side so he only had a small area to walk trough to get to the dumpster. I could see where Tim and his wife had spent there time looking for it earlier there was a pile of snow that had been shoveled so that’s were i start to scan i sweep my coil over the pile 2 or 3 times and get i nice hit at about 6 inch’s stick my pin pointer down where the signal was to check it out. Scooped out a few scoops of snow and went at it with the pin pointer and there it was tims wedding band. Tim could not believe i found his ring not even a minute after getting to the dumpster area. You could say Time was excited to have his ring back as was his wife considering that ring has only been on times finger for 4 months.

Campbell dad finds his ring in Los Gatos park

Campbell dad finds his ring in Los Gatos park

Today we got a call from a Campbell dad who had just lost his platinum wedding band at  a park in Los Gatos. He had already hunted for the ring on hands and knees for an hour when his wife found Ring Finders on the web. We headed over to the park with two metal detectors.

The owner showed us how the ring had flown off his finger when he threw a soccer ball over his head. We re-enacted the toss a few times with another ring to identify the search area. But after an hour, we still hadn’t found it.

Then we searched closer to where he had been standing, and found it very quickly. Unbelievably, the ring had fallen almost at his feet. Dad has decided to get his ring resized so that it doesn’t fall off again.

Found: Lost Platinum Wedding Band in Mill Valley

Lost Platinum Wedding Band Found in Mill Valley Front Yard

Lost Platinum Wedding Band Found in Mill Valley Front Yard

Last week we were contacted about a missing platinum wedding ring at a home in Mill Valley. The house sits on a small flat yard above a steep slope down to the street, with amazing views of San Francisco Bay and Sausalito. The downside is, it’s a long walk up the stairs from the street for everyone, including the owners. But what a view!

The owner had been using his Weed Whacker to clear brush on the slope when he hit a subterranean wasp nest. Next thing he knows, he’s covered with wasps. After stomping, whacking and wiping wasps off his legs while running back up to the house, he discovered his wedding ring was missing.

Ring Finders to the rescue! Two searchers with two metal detectors started by hunting for about ten minutes on the flat grass at the top, then moved down to search the hill. After another twenty minutes, it started to rain… After searching for an hour on the hill, we were about to pack it in and wait for better weather. But we decided to try once more on the flat yard back up near the house, and found the ring!

Missing platinum ring found at Mill Valley home

Here’s what the owner had to say:

“Still can’t really believe it” is all that can be said. Like the Postman, The Ring Finders worked through the inclement weather, on the side of a steep hill, under and around sticker bushes, all with the goal of locating our cherished wedding band. Little did we realize that their fundamental task was applying the expertise from their craft to truly help others, both in their efforts to find our lost ring, but then going the extra step of donating a portion of any reward to a worthy and charitable cause. We doubly thank Dave for his time and energies devoted to searching for, and ultimately locating, our ring. We could not have done it without them … we tried. Their don’t give up attitude was infectious to be around, and hopefully makes us all consider how to utilize our talents and time to help others. Thank you.

Found Lost Ring Walla Walla/Eastern Washington/Platinum Ring

March 6th, 2010 by

Today was a good day to hunt for a ring. Well, just about any day is good for hunting. I was contacted by a man from Walla Walla, Washington, who had listed a lost ring on Craigslist. The ring was lost about one week ago, and they had already rented two metal detectors and searched the area with no luck. It is always hard for someone to pick of a MD for the first time and understand what all the “beeps” are about and he was no exception.

The story was that they were out on the deck trying to get their barbecue going. She was fanning the flames and suddenly her 4K Platinum engagement ring flew off her finger. They did not see where it went and did not hear it hit anything.

Upon arriving at the house I did a ring test to see the areas that it might have landed in. Each test showed a low trajectory directly to each side. I started the search on the deck, where the bench around the deck was open underneath and was dirt and gravel mix with dry leaves on top. After that did not show any ring I started on the lawn. I did a grid search twice of the area using two different settings on my XLT and the ring was not there.

The only other place that it might have gone, I felt was over the fence to the neighbors yard, but that was a long shot because of where she was standing, and the other ring tests did not even come close to the fence. After suggesting we check over the fence and see if it had somehow made it over, I stopped and searched one more area while a relative went into the neighbors yard to look. He found the ring on the ground under a camper parked next to the fence. It must have been some wild arm flapping to get the ring to come off and fly back over her shoulder at least 20 feet. It was pretty amazing. Everyone had just about given up hope on finding the ring. You can imagine how happy they were when it was found.

This was such a nice ring, and it had only just began its journey, to be lost and ended there, would have been to bad. The owners were such nice people and now they have a story to go with the ring.

The owner of the ring was pretty excited to have it back, and was thinking of ways he could tell his fiance that it was found. Big smiles all around.

Thanks guys for letting me be apart of the adventure and thanks for the nice reward!
