Found lost gold wedding ring in Perth garden

January 5th, 2011 by

Kim called me recently via TheRingFinders saying he was  confident that he had lost his gold wedding ring while spreading fertiliser over his backyard lawn. Kim spent quite some time raking through the grass and trying to eyeball the ring with no success.

I arrived at his home with my detectors in hand determined to see the ring back on his finger. Within about 10 minutes I had my first solid signal which I guessed just might be his ring. The ring was very hard to spot even on hands and knees as it had managed to work it’s way down to the roots so I exposed the grass and thatch to reveal his gold ring in the bright sunlight.

Kim was thrilled to get his ring back and in such quick time…..I wish every hunt was this easy !

Thanks Kim for contacting me and I am just as happy to rack up another successful hunt.

Regards,

Tony.

Found 22k gold ring at Mettam’s Pool, Perth

December 18th, 2010 by

I have recently come back from an underwater metal detector hunt. Water metal detecting is by far the most enjoyable form of this hobby.

It was a perfect summer morning with crystal clear and calm Indian Ocean waters and a blazing sun. I decided to hunt a popular swimming area and kitted myself with mask, snorkel and weight belt….and my trusty White’s detector.

This time I decided to push out a little deeper to about 7 feet depth of water. I look like a submarine as all you can see is about 6″ of snorkel moving slowly through the water. Within 30 minutes I had located a pile of old coins and fishing sinkers but shortly after, I managed to find my first 22k gold ring. The weight is unbelievable. I had to fan away the sand to reveal the target as a scoop is useless in a rocky/sandy sea floor. The ring has unique markings on the inside of the band so if anyone from Perth (or possibly a visitor) can describe what is inscribed then the ring can be back on your finger. I have a strong feeling that the ring has been lost a long time as all other nearby targets were showing signs of salt water corrosion. The 22k ring was flawless and was a beautiful deep gold colour.

I have captured the discovery on video but can’t upload for a few more days as the SD card is unavailable. I will post the video when I get the chance.

HH and hoping everyone has a safe and merry Christmas,

Tony.

Update *** Here is the video….

METAL DETECTOR HIRE PERTH

November 21st, 2010 by

Some people will hire a metal detector from a detector shop here in Perth. The shop only hires out an underwater machine which is based on weekly rental of about $200, which is kind of expensive. You then need to acquire a scoop and then work out how to operate the detector. The real work for a novice is then being able to hunt in the water !

I think it’s much easier for someone to hire me instead !!

Thanks,

Tony.

Lost gold and diamond wedding ring, South Beach, Fremantle

November 21st, 2010 by

I got a call yesterday from Melissa who told me she has lost her gold and diamond wedding ring.

The ring came off when she was playing with her children……I know this scenario well. Young children hold onto Mum’s arms and when they drag their hands down someone’s arm then valuables are often stripped away.

I spent about 3 hours this morning looking for the ring but conditions were really poor in the water. I plan on looking again this week as the weather and early summer return.

I did find one of those *^%!#@ stainless steel rings which I really hate. These type of rings are popular with some people for reasons lost on me. They look like white gold but closer inspection reveals them for what they are !!

If anyone local has found this ring then please contact me so that we can get this ring back to the original owner.

Stay tuned on this one….”lost” is a temporary condition.

Newspaper story

November 17th, 2010 by

A local newspaper contacted me the other day asking if I’d like to do a story on my “ring finding” hobby. This is definitely a great way to promote TheRingFinders and will no doubt generate quite a few requests to look for people’s lost valuables.

I met up with one of their photographers at a local beach, detector in hand and we managed to get some decent photo’s.

The free newspaper goes out to about 50000 homes and businesses, of which most are located in close proximity to the busy beaches and river. I will post further details when the article is published and possibly a link to the actual story.

I encourage anyone to jump at the chance if they are approached by any media company to do a story as it gets great publicity.

Well it’s a 105F today so I’m off to the beach and crystal clear Indian Ocean waters. I hope you guys in the Northern Hemisphere aren’t freezing your butts off too much.

Thanks for reading,

Tony.

Well we gave it a go for the lost key

October 31st, 2010 by

I received a call from Kamil the other day. He had lost his only car key which meant he couldn’t get inside his car let alone drive it.

I hooked up the big 15″ coil to the detector and spent a solid 2 hours searching an area of dry sand on Perth’s beautiful Cottesloe beach but unfortunately his key decided that the “beach life” was far more relaxing than being stuck in some car igniton. Sorry Kamil that we couldn’t find your key…..I hate not finding stuff ! I was surprised that we didn’t find it as we sure dug a lot of junk and a few coins as well.

Kamil will now have to get a locksmith to build him a new key for his car. I’m confident that Kamil will also get a few copies cut as well….hint, hint.

Nice meeting you and if I can help you out again then you know where to find me !

All the best,

Tony.

End of summer

April 26th, 2010 by

Well summer has finished downunder but I hope to spend plenty of time mopping up all of the lost gold from the past 6 months. I did manage some nice finds and returned several  rings to the correct owners.

I hope to do some hunts in the lakes and dams as well, as I know these spots haven’t seen much detector activity.

So if anyone has lost a ring in and around the Perth area, you can hire a complicated metal detector or you can hire me instead !

For those of you in the Northern Hemisphere, I hope you all have a great summer and manage to hunt down some nice gold.

HH,

Tony.
