Every Father’s wedding ring is special. But, when Matt Wilson called us on Valentine’s Day and sent us this photo of his newborn daughter’s hand, easily fitting inside his ring… we knew we had to find it for him!
His miracle baby daughter, Mya, now a happy, healthy young girl, was born 12 weeks early and weighed in at only 1 pound, 10.8 ounces.
Now, years later, while having a photographer shoot their first family portrait, on a beach in Naples, Florida, Matt’s ring ended up in the drink!
He searched for the ring for hours, but ended up having to fly home without it. Then, thanks to TheRingfinders website, Matt was able to find us and sent us a map of the area and the photo of the ring.
It took three trips out to the area, but I was able to find it and return it to the family.

This afternoon, I received a call from Mark who told me that he had lost his gold wedding band today while doing some yard work around his home.
Mark sounded a little bit stressed, and when he began to tell me the story I could see why.

Today is Mark’s 15th wedding anniversary..!!
Probably the worst day imaginable to lose your wedding band.
I knew I had to find it for him.
As it turns out, I live very close to Mark’s house and left home as soon as we hung up the phone.
I arrived about 10 minutes later and met Mark and his lovely wife. I then had Mark take me through the events of the day. He showed me where he had been raking and picking up some leaves and small branches around the yard and also spreading fresh top soil on his front garden with his bare hands.
I wanted to eliminate the garden first as it was logical that the ring would most likely have slipped off while he was spreading around the top soil.
After thoroughly checking the garden and not hitting the ring, I knew it had to be in with the leaves or somewhere on the front lawn.
We spread a pile of leaves across the lawn a little bit and I started scanning this area.
Right away I got a beautiful, heavy hit and knew by that special sound rings make that we had it.
I spread the leaves apart a little, and sure enough there was Mark’s gold wedding band staring back at me.

I picked it up and handed to him and watched as a smile of happiness and relief lit up his face.
Really glad I could help you out today Mark..!!
I hope you and your wife enjoy your anniversary..!!
Take care,
Mark Ellis

Back on April 3rd, I was contacted by Laurie via email informing me that over the weekend she lost her wedding ring while doing yard work. What I remember most about the email was her last sentence……..” I’m absolutely heartbroken”. I got back to her the same day and we made arrangements to come out that weekend. Once again, my detecting buddy Lance was available to tag along. Were we successful you ask? I’ll let Laurie tell the story in her own words…..
We were outside most of the day Saturday. My husband was working in the yard all day. I was outside most of the day as well , simultaneously cleaning up the flowerbeds and the kids’ play area and playing with the kids. After coming in for the day, we had a quick dinner, gave the kids a bath and put them to bed. Once the kids were in bed and we had a chance to relax we realized my engagement ring was missing. We panicked and tried to look for it in the house and outside, even though it was dark. We barely slept and continued the search on Sunday and for the next couple days. We sifted through the bags of yard waste, checked drains in the house, took apart our washing machine and used a cheap metal detector that we had in our garage. We had no luck finding the ring but kept googling for ideas. We came across Jim’s web page and figured we had nothing to lose. We e-mailed Jim and he responded right away. He told us not to throw out our yard waste so that they could check it with their detectors. We arranged for Jim and his buddy Lance to come out in a few days. They arrived as scheduled and were very friendly and eager to help find the ring. They asked some questions about what we were doing and where and then they got to work. They were very methodical in their search and their equipment was top-notch. Within and hour of searching, Lance found the ring in a bag of yard waste. As our daughter said, “Yay, nice men!” Thanks again Jim and Lance! ~ Laurie & Jason
I tell you what, the feeling never gets old returning something to someone that has practically given up hope of ever seeing it again. And this 100% success rate I(we) have going……I’m really getting use to it!

On Sunday April 1, 2012, I received a call from Mike who told me that he had lost one of his wife’s diamond rings on Saturday, March 31,2012.

Mike explained that he had taken his wife Tammy’s ring and a bracelet to a local
jewelry store to have them fixed. The bracelet needed some work, and a claw on the diamond ring

was coming away from the stone.
After getting everything fixed, Mike drove home and got out of the truck with the ring, bracelet and car keys in his hand. As he stood on the front lawn, his kids came out and started play fighting with him for a minute as he walked along the side of the house to the back yard where a large wooden deck is built.
After stepping onto the deck, Mike opened his hand and realized only the car keys and bracelet were there. The ring was gone..!!!
After searching all over the place for quite some time with no luck, Mike called me.
I was able to make it out there to the house this morning, Monday April 2,2012.
Once there, I met Mike and had him re-create what happened on Saturday.
After running me through what had happened, I went back to the car to get all my gear.
I decided to eliminate under the wooden deck first as this would be the toughest place to access. I wanted to get the dirty work out of the way first, then move on to the grass later.
I used my headlamp to check under the deck and clearly didn’t see the ring. Then I started checking between and behind all the slats in the fence beside the steps up to the deck.
After checking behind the third fence slat near the stairs, I could see a small piece of gold peeking out from under an oak leaf. I moved the oak leaf and there was Tammy’s beautiful gold and diamond ring looking back at me.
I told Mike we had it and he couldn’t believe it. I handed it to him and he just stated laughing.
He looked shocked. Lol I love this look..!!
I’m really happy I could help you out this morning Mike and Tammy..!!!
I love these quick searches..!! This one took about twenty seconds, and my second recovery in a row where I didn’t even get to turn on my detector.
Also, thank you Mike for the generous reward on such a fast recovery.
I hope you enjoy the ring for years to come.
Take care,
Mark Ellis

Wintering in Southwest Florida means BEACH TIME!
And one of our all-time, favorite things to do at the beach is to help residents and visitors recover valuables they’ve lost in the sand… AND IN THE WATER!
Here’s a link to some pics Naples Daily News freelance photographer Jason Easterly caught of us combing the beach for a gentleman’s wedding ring that was lost in the surf on Marco Island.

While checking-out of The Sundial Resort on Sanibel Island, Mike realized his platinum wedding ring was missing! It had rarely left his finger since his marriage to Erika, ten years ago. But, now, it was GONE!
His best guess was that it was lost at sea… a casualty of playing football on a sandbar, 20-30 feet off the beach. He emailed us a map outlining where he thought it might be, and when the wind and tide were right, I drove out to the island and got to work.
Hours of thoroughly searching the area, in knee-to-waist-deep water, turned up nothing but junk. But, I wasn’t about to give up and returned to give it another go, finding it in the dip between the beach and the sandbar.

Funny thing is, when it happens… when you find yourself staring down into your scoop at that ring… time tends to stop in it’s tracks! You blink a lot, as if to make sure your eyes are working right, and then you just stand there for a minute, in awe.
Minutes later, I’m on the phone for the best part of all… Mike’s reaction when I tell him, “I found your ring”!
The inscription: Love Always, Erika!
(This was my favorite wet find of 2010… 2011 & 2012 will follow.)

On Friday March 23rd I received a call from Jag about his gold wedding band that he had lost on Thursday.
Jag has just purchased a beautiful new home in Richmond Hill, just north of Toronto and went to look at the house with his children on Thursday.

The house is in a new development which is still under construction and is surrounded by deep mud and a ton of construction materials laying all over the place.
While at the side of his new home, Jag’s shoe sunk into the ankle deep mud and he had to reach down into the mud to extract his shoe and then tried to fling the wet mud of of his hands.
After spending a little more time walking around, Jag and the kids went back home.
Later, Jag noticed that his wedding band was missing and went back to the new property

looking for his ring for hours. He started digging around in the mud and after being unable to find his ring, he conducted a quick internet search which led him to me.
We met this morning, Saturday March 24th, and Jag took me to the new home under construction and showed me the general area where his shoe got stuck in the mud. He then told me about flinging the mud off his hands afterwards which could have thrown the ring anywhere.
After my own shoe sunk ankle deep, I went back to the car to put on my rubber boots and grab my gear. After getting all set up and ready to go, I started walking back to the site with Jag following close behind me.
After years of detecting, you start to develop eyes like a crow… you seem to be hyper alert to all things shiny and items that are round, like coins and rings…..
Well, sure enough, I didn’t even get the chance to turn on my detector.
I spotted the mud covered ring about fifteen

feet away where Jag’s shoe got stuck in the mud. It must have flown off when he shook his hands.
I picked his ring up out of the mud and turned to him and said “Jag, guess what..??? ”
Needless to say, Jag is overjoyed we found his beautiful 18K white and
yellow gold wedding band.
He told me that he hasn’t really slept since he lost it and was worried sick he’d never find it. Well, we found it….
I’m really happy I could help you out today Jag..!!
Enjoy your ring Jag and your beautiful new home.
Take care,
Mark Ellis

I’m very proud of my perfect recovery record thus far as a member of The Ring Finders. The most recent recovery gives me a perfect 4 for 4 record! I must admit, this time it was my detecting buddy who I asked to come along with me that actually found the lost platinum ring we were looking for, but nonetheless the recovery was a success! Being able to make a couple’s St. Patty’s Day extra special sure was nice. I’ll let Sarah tell you the rest of the story in her own words….
My husband was out in our yard doing some gardening including spreading grass seed and pulling up weeds and throwing them over an embankment in a wooded area behind our house. A few hours after finishing the yard work, he noticed that his ring was missing. Even though he wasn’t sure he had lost it in the yard, he immediately went out there searching for hours with no luck. He was even able to rent a metal detector and searched the area and still had no success. He finally gave up and decided that the ring was lost for good. When he told me, I wasn’t sure that a metal detector would pick up platinum so I did a search online for lost platinum ring and I stumbled upon Jim’s blog. I sent him a quick e-mail asking if it would be worth it for him to come out if my husband had already searched with a metal detector. Jim wrote back right away saying that the skill of the detector had a lot to do with the ability to find things, so I figured we’d give him a try. Jim came out about a week later on St. Patrick’s day with his friend Lance. They both brought their metal detectors and after my husband gave them a description of his yard work activities they began searching in what they thought were the most likely areas to find the ring: over in the area where he was throwing weeds and in the area he had been planting the grass. Maybe 15 minutes after they arrived, I started to head out to meet them and my husband said to me “I hope you don’t get your hopes up.” I said I hadn’t, but I really had! I stepped outside and asked if they had any luck yet and they said they had found it already!! It was located in the area where my husband had been planting grass and was under about an inch of dirt. My husband and I couldn’t believe that they had found it so quickly! I think it took longer to write this letter than it took for them to find the ring. I later realized that it was the 5th anniversary of us getting engaged. So five St. Patrick’s days ago he had given me an engagement ring and on this one, he had gotten his wedding ring back! Now St. Patrick’s day is twice as lucky for us. Thanks again Jim and Lance!
