Metal Detecting…Night Hunt for lost Gold at Locarno Beach, Vancouver

I received a call from Chris who lost his wedding band while setting up his camera to take some pictures of the city from Locarno Beach in Vancouver. The thing was he didn’t know when the ring came off, this makes it hard to locate the ring as the area could be huge.

After talking to Chris on the phone he new he had it on when he left his car and when he got back to his car it was gone. He sent me a google map of the area as he couldn’t meet me, this was a great way to get a feel for the search area and I felt confident I could find the ring.

20 minutes after a started my search I found his ring at 3:30 am near the top of the search area on the picture above…I love it when I get lucky and pick the right area to start the grid search. It could have been a much longer search!

I love my job!

2 Lost Rings in the UBC Area / Spanish Banks…Found

September 10th, 2011 by

Smiles are the best things we find! I got a call from a young lady that tells me she lost two rings while on a big water slide that was made for a party with lots of friends. The rings meant a lot to Fran and she thought she’d never see the rings again so she was going to rent a metal detector and went on line and found The Ring Finders Directory.

My wife and I met Fran at 8PM just before it got dark and she showed us the huge hill where they had the slide that weekend. I could see the flatten grass where the slide was placed and this helped with our grid search.

After just minutes of turning on my big flood light we found one ring that was flattened into the ground. After a 14 hour day at work then 2 hours into the search we decided to call it a night. I knew it would take daylight to find the second ring as it was hard to do a grid in the low light we had.

We sent a picture of the ring to Fran and told her we’d go out and search on the weekend for the gold & jade ring. I went out and bought a new metal detector(Whites V3i) and I was excited to give it a go, our son wanted to join the search and Beverley and I were excited to have him as the search area was pretty huge.

I wasn’t feeling all that great when we got there and it was a hot day so I slowly started to set up my new detector and Jamie ask me if he could give it a go, I said sure and his mother let him use the Whites XLT that she was going to use. I just started to grid search when I hear Jamie and Beverley shouting…Found It! Found It! I’m thinking found what? It was almost like Jamie walked right to the ring!

With such a big area to search that day Jamie knocked it out of the park! I was so proud of him and happy to know that I could go home and rest…Like his mother he has the knack of find what people thought was lost forever.

I love my job & family!

Found..Lost Gold Ring at English Bay Beach, Vancouver BC

Last night I went to sleep at 11:45 pm and I was planning on getting up at 3:am to go to the beach with a friend and do a beach hunt.

Minutes before midnight I awake to a phone call…911… someone lost their ring at the beach and wanted to know if I could help find it.

After taking notes of the location the ring was lost at I decide to search for it ASAP so that no one else would find it before I got there.

I get up and make a coffee and get ready to hit the road…The great thing was that it was the same beach my friend and I were going to at 4 am that morning. I wasn’t going to wake him up early so I went there to find the ring then come back to pick up my friend.

I get to the beach and I can see hand prints all over the sand in the area the ring was lost at, I know that I’m in the right spot, so I start my search.

After 10 minutes of searching in the dark at around 1:15 am I get a loud strong signal. I sink the scoop into the nice dry sand and I watched the sand sift through the scoop until I could see the beautiful color of gold!

After I returned home from the beach I had 30 minutes to make another coffee and get ready to pick up my friend and head back out to the beach.

I love my job!

Lost Wedding Ring Found on Stinson Beach

Lost Wedding Ring Found on Stinson Beach

Lost Wedding Ring Found on Stinson Beach

Last week we received a call from Ross in Atlanta, Georgia. His family had just returned from a visit to the Bay Area, including a day on Stinson Beach in Marin County. While there, his wife Kathia lost her wedding ring. After failing to find the ring and returning to Atlanta, Ross called The Ring Finders.

Ross sent us two important clues: a satellite map with a search area highlighted, and more important, a snapshot taken on the beach that happened to show the location where the family had been. While the satellite map was helpful, the photo gave us an even better fix on where the ring might have been lost.

Rain kept us from searching for four days, but we finally made it up Route 1 to Stinson Beach today. When we arrived, we mapped out the search zone based on the satellite map. This covered an area about half the size of a football field. However, by carefully locating a tree shown in the snapshot, we could identify a “sweet spot” that was about half that size.

Then the hard work began. We searched the sweet spot for almost three hours. After the first hour, a ranger told us we had to leave because we were on the Federal section of the beach. But when we told him Kathia’s story, he let us stay and search!

We assumed the ring would not be too deep, but you know what happens when you assume…At about 6:30pm, we got a deep signal in the last section of the sweet spot. Digging down eight inches, there was the lost wedding ring.

How did a ring sink to eight inches in five days? Our best guess is that rough weather had deposited more sand on the beach. Although the ring was located above the high tide line, there were indications that the water had risen much higher during the last couple of days. So a ring that might have started at a depth of two inches was now covered by six extra inches of sand. Fortunately, we had a metal detector that could find the ring that deep.

Lost Wedding Ring Found in San Francisco

Kathleen lost her wedding ring in San Francisco

Kathleen lost her wedding ring in San Francisco, but we found it for her

Kathleen was gardening at home in San Francisco today when she pulled up a big pile of weeds and tossed them over the fence. Unfortunately, her ring disappeared at the same time. Since she’s been wearing it for 30 years, she definitely wanted to get it back.

We got to Kathleen’s house at about 7pm, hoping we’d be able to find the ring before sunset. But once we looked over the fence, we got worried: five foot tall brush and weeds so thick we wouldn’t be able to walk through them, let alone swing our metal detectors. We really hoped the ring was still on the inside of fence!

Good news: we found the ring within 15 minutes, and it was indeed inside the fence. It’s a beautiful ring, with a gold nugget design. I’m glad we were able to find it. Kathleen did everything right: she made careful note of exactly where the ring came off her finger, she searched very carefully , and when she couldn’t find it she called The Ring Finders!

Found Ring Almonte Trouvé Bague Almonte

May 27th, 2011 by

Good Evening everyone,

It’s been a while since i’ve posted. Working evening shifts and having no searches in the last months, until last week on the 12th of May. Nemo was enjoying the beautiful day to do yard work on the 6th of May, he went to the garden to shake some trees to rid of dead leaves and needles. While going from tree to tree he noticed at the end he had lost his ring, he frantically searched but to know avail. While doing some searching on google he came across the ring finders and my blog, a phone call was made and an appointment was made. I searched the compost area where leaves and debris from the yard cleaning were thrown into some bushes. Nothing was found. I continued my search along the wall of the house where weeds were pulled and then made my way towards the trees which were shook. Going from tree to tree (around 6 in total), nothing beeped, I noticed I was on the wrong program, I immediately changed it, went to my first tree, and there it was that familiar ring tone in my ears, bent down pinpointed it and there she was that glimmer of gold. Nemo and Sarah were extremely happy, and so was I. If you know of anyone who lost a ring, bracelet, chain, give me a call The Ring Finder is there and will help you fing whatever that was lost. Call me at 819-332-3116 and ask for Stephane. Have a great evening everyone !  I use a White’s XLT for my ring searches please visit www.whiteselectronics.com for great detectors and accessories.

Found: Lost 24K Wedding Ring in Marin County

Joel Bartlett Found His Lost Wedding Ring

Joel Bartlett found his lost wedding ring

Lots of us in the Bay Area remember Joel Bartlett from the years he was the meteorologist on the Channel 7 news. Joel and his wife Sahar now live in Marin County. They were gardening at home last weekend, including lots of physical labor to clear weeds, move rocks and plant bushes. When they were all done, Joel noticed that his 24 carat gold wedding ring had gone missing. They searched everywhere, including the big pile of brush they had cleared away, to no avail.

Sahar called us on Monday, and arranged for us to come by on Tuesday. When we arrived, Joel showed us the two plant beds where they had worked over the weekend. We searched these beds thoroughly with two metal detectors and found some missing pruning shears, but did not find the missing ring.

Then Joel showed us one more area, where they had piled the brush and clippings before hauling them away. It only took us a couple of minutes to find the ring in some deep grass. If you’ve never seen 24 carat gold, it is a deeper, warmer color than the 14 carat and 18 carat gold that is more common in jewelry. It also makes for a very heavy ring!

If you lose your ring anywhere in Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara or Contra Costa counties and you know it is in grass, sand or dirt, give us a call and we will do what we can to help.

Lost Gold Wedding Band in Pemberton Meadows…FOUND!

April 11th, 2011 by

I had a very quick search the other day, as I got a call from a a guy who had lost his wedding ring while on a snowmobile trip up the Pemberton vally. We arranged a time to go up there and get his ring back. Matt picked me up from my house and we made our way up there. It was a beauty of a day, which was nice for a change as the weather has been cold and wet for some time. We got to the area where they were unloading their sleds, which was covered in snow 2 weeks before. All that was left was a snowbank off to the side of the parking lot. I walked around the snow looking for the ring before even setting up the metal detector as it was a small pile and I would be able to see it if it was there. After no ring in the snow, I looked to the side of the snow bank and down in the rocks was a shiny gold ring! We couldn’t belive I had found it so quick and without the detector. The ring was in a good spot kind of out of the way, between the snow bank and a big pile of rocks. It had been sitting there for about 2 weeks or so. Had it been out in the open, chances are someone would have seen it and picked it up. Matt was so happy to get his ring back and I was happy to help. The ring had been on his finger for 21 years and now it can stay for 21 more. Thank you for the generous reward Matt.

I LOVE what I do…
