Platnium and Diamond ring found and returned in Westwood Massachusetts

December 5th, 2011 by

I received an email from a gentleman a week or so before Thanksgiving,  asking if i may be able  to find his wife’s engagement ring that she lost while doing yard work,or if i knew someone in his area that could. Westwood is about an hour or so from me so i said that on Saturday after Thanksgiving i would come up and try to find it,he said his wife knows right where it should be. We made arrangements for me to meet his wife in front of there house on that Saturday. I arrived at 10:05am and she brought me to the back yard where she had a pile of leaves, she said she lost it in a leaf bag so she dumped it under her deck and that’s where it will be. After scanning it for a few minutes, i told her i was confident that the ring wasn’t there. Her faced dropped. I looked on the side of her deck and saw a small pile of leaves and scanned it and BINGO there was the engagement ring. I looked over to her and her back was to me, so i walked over and tapped her on the shoulder and said i  hope this makes your  holiday’s better as i held out the ring. She started shaking a little and the gave me a huge hug and said thank you. After a couple pictures we said our goodbye’s.

Lost Ring Found in Larkspur, Marin County

Lost Wedding Ring Found in Larkspur

Lost Wedding Ring Found in Larkspur

Wayne contacted us a few days ago to say that his wife Rosie had lost her wedding ring while gardening. She’d been pulling weeds, amending the soil, and planting new plants when she discovered the ring was missing. This was strange, because the ring fit snugly on her finger, and had never come off before. They had tried using a metal detector, but couldn’t find the ring anywhere.

When we arrived, Rosie showed us the front garden plot. It wasn’t large, perhaps 30 feet by 2 feet. We were concerned about whether our larger metal detectors would work, because there were railroad ties forming the front border of the plot, and a wall along the back side, and both contained screws and other embedded iron fasteners.

So we started by scanning the plot quickly with a handheld metal detector called a pinpointer. We found about a dozen nails and sprinkler parts, but no ring. Now we knew the top layer of soil was mostly clear of metal, but we still had the screws along the front and back to contend with.

We scanned the bed again with a larger metal detector set to discriminate out, or ignore, most iron. This is a tricky process, because if you tell the detector to discriminate out too much iron, you will lose the ability to find smaller gold targets like rings. But we had to be able to ignore those pesky screws.

It worked. About 5-6 inches deep in the soil, buried under one of the new plants, we found the ring. It’s a beauty, inset with black diamonds, one of the most unique rings we’ve recovered. Rosie was very happy to get it back.

If you lose your ring, necklace, earring or other jewelry in the San Francisco Bay area, give us a call. We cover Marin County, San Francisco, San Mateo County, Santa Clara County and the East Bay. If you read some of the other stories in our blog, you’ll see that we can detect jewelry buried deeply in sand, mud, and soil.

Lost/Recovered 14kt Gold Diamond Engagement Ring Delaware Seashore State Park Bethany Beach, Del.

July 31st, 2011 by

On 07/31/11 @ 10:19 am, I received a phone call from a young lady who had lost her 14kt Gold Diamond Engagement Ring on the Beach at the Delaware Seashore State Park Bethany Beach, Delaware. The ring slipped off of her finger and fell into the dry sand while she was applying suntan oil. The sand had been searched for about one hour without any luck before I received the phone call. I arrived at the beach and found that the area of the lost ring had been marked with beach towels. I began my search and with three swings of the detector I received a familiar gold tone. I used my sand scoop to carefully recover the ring and as the sand filtered through my scoop the ring appeared. The young lady gave a cheerful yell as she said “He’s got it, I see it!”.  Another great recovery!

Lost Diamond Wedding Ring Found in San Francisco

Kelly lost her silver ring with diamonds in San Francisco

Kelly lost her silver ring with diamonds in San Francisco

Yesterday was gorgeous in the San Francisco Bay Area, the first real spring day we’ve had this year. Kelly and her friends enjoyed a picnic at a park, then picked up the pace a little with some hula hoops. Unfortunately, Kelly’s ring flew off her finger when she spun the hoop. She and her friends searched the deep grass, but could not find the ring.

We met Kelly at the park today. She showed us where they held the picnic and we planned a gridded search. Kelly put us in the right place, because it took less than five minutes to find the ring buried in the grass. Our metal detectors can find jewelry through grass and weeds, as long as we can swing the loop low over the ground.

One more reminder: if you lose your ring, stop and look around, finding landmarks for each place where you may have lost it. Kelly put us in the right place, so the search today was very quick. We wish they were all this easy!

We found Kelly's silver diamond ring in the deep grass

Diamond and Gold Ring Lost in 1959….Recovered in 2010 by The Ring Finders Deldon Krueger

February 15th, 2011 by

I got a Call last spring around Mid April from a lady who told me a story about a ring she had lost.  It all began in 1959 when she was 9 yrs old.  she had been playing dress up in her moms room and had been putting on her moms costume jewelry…except one piece she had put on was a “butterfly” gold ring with a diamond in the center and 8 other gems in the wings (a birthstone ring) from her Great grandmother who had passed it down to her mother and one day to her…but not yet, not at the age of 9 in 1959.  Her Mom told her that one day the ring would belong to her.  A few days later she had become obsessed with the ring and snuck it out of her moms jewelry box and wore it to school one day,  a small 2 room school house, out in the country, 12 miles from the nearest town.   My first thought was “Oh wow, like Little House on the Prairie”, then she asked me to go find the ring…I was doubtful that I could locate the ring.  51 years had passed and she had no idea where on the playground she lost it.  Myself and my “team” got permission from the church that now owned the school house building to do our search.  when we got to the site we staked out and gridded the property, she said she had lost it on the playground, so we headed there first.  after about 3 hours we realized that where we were searching had been back filled with about 10 inches of dirt since my metal detector had found a Mt. Dew can about 10 inches down in the ground near the swing set…and there was a date in the concrete  of the swing set dated 1979…we were a little frustrated by now and not sure what to do, so I called Jean and asked here where exactly she used to play.  Evidently where we were searching had been where the outhouses and trash pits had been back in 1959 and there was a foundation there as well that we later found out was the horse barn.   Jean explained that the old playground was to the east of the school house.   about 100 yards from where we began our search.   We decided to pull up our stakes and grid the east side of the building, and withing an hour my Metal Detector got a sweet low tone that I have know to be the sound of gold, it was pretty feint but it was there none the less.  I made a wide divot so as not to damage what ever was in the soil with my digging tool.  I pulled out a plug about 7 inches wide and about 10 inches down then scanned the whole with my Pin Pointer….Nothing, that was good news because that means whatever it was, was in the plug of soil I had dug up.  I scanned my Garrett ProPointer around the plug  and bingo, she started chirping away, within moment I began to break the plug apart  until I found the object of my search, the amazing thing about gold is it never Rust or corrodes, 51 years in the dirt and it still gleamed.  the stones and mountings were caked with dirt and grime but after taking it home and cleaning it up real good it looked as good as new.   I called Jean in Florida and told her the good news, she cried….and thanked me endlessly, I shipped her the ring and a week later she sent me $1000 and a thank you card.  I was blown away, she didn’t have to do that but it was greatly appreciated, I split the money with my Team and we donated 25% to the American Cancer Society.  That is just one of the many stories of my successful recoveries….so tell me, what did you lose?

Tiffany Ring Found In Hermosa Beach

February 2nd, 2011 by

I got the call the night before, a young lady had been searching for her Tiffany Atlas ring that her parents had given her for her 30th birthday. It was described as white gold with 3 diamonds.

We marked off the area in the dry sand she had been searching the day before.

After doing grid search both ways with no luck, I had to go back to my truck and feed the meter.  I haven’t given up yet, so this time I expanded my search down towards the wet sand, and there I got a good hit. The surf had buried it about 4 or 5 inches. I called over to her, she could not believe it. Then with tears streaming down her cheeks,I got the best part of this job, several Big Hugs.

Missing Wedding Band In Manhattan Beach

February 2nd, 2011 by

On this call, the second of the day, I went to a residential area of Manhattan Beach. Here a young lady told me her husband had lost his wedding band while he had been doing some cleanup in the front yard. I started my search in the planters on the outer edges and worked inward’s, then after 20mins I found it in the grass in the front yard.. She was very happy.

Land Of The Lost – La Brea Tar Pits, Los Angeles

February 2nd, 2011 by

On this day I had two call’s, this one was a lost gold ring at La Brea Tar Pits, near Beverly Hills CA.

The couple had been at an event that was held on the large lawn area. The husbanded called me and we met at the sight. The husband and I walked the area over before his wife got there. One area he had mentioned, was where the Port-a-potties where, (I thought I would save that as a last search area). I had just started my grid search when his wife showed up. I asked here where was the last place she remembered having the ring. She pointed out a grassy area around a hillside so I walled over and moved about 10ft beyond the area she had pointed out and walked about 5 steps and there it was. Tears in her eyes, she gave me a big hug and smiles everywhere. As I left I got one more hug

Newspaper story

November 17th, 2010 by

A local newspaper contacted me the other day asking if I’d like to do a story on my “ring finding” hobby. This is definitely a great way to promote TheRingFinders and will no doubt generate quite a few requests to look for people’s lost valuables.

I met up with one of their photographers at a local beach, detector in hand and we managed to get some decent photo’s.

The free newspaper goes out to about 50000 homes and businesses, of which most are located in close proximity to the busy beaches and river. I will post further details when the article is published and possibly a link to the actual story.

I encourage anyone to jump at the chance if they are approached by any media company to do a story as it gets great publicity.

Well it’s a 105F today so I’m off to the beach and crystal clear Indian Ocean waters. I hope you guys in the Northern Hemisphere aren’t freezing your butts off too much.

Thanks for reading,

Tony.

Lost Wedding Band at Dockweiler State Beach, Los Angeles CA

October 30th, 2010 by

On this call, a father of 3 was running along the beach with his 11yr old son, the father wanted to go run into the surf and get wet, but before, he handed his son his wedding ring and they placed it onto the lanyard of the camera that the son was carrying. A short time later they met up with the wife. When the wife took the camera  from the son, there was no mention of the ring, and it was lost in that instant.

I got the call that night and agreed to meet the next day after work. I had told him that I had been there earlier in the day and had noticed that the beach sweeper’s had been by and that along with myself there had already been at least 2 others searching in that same area along the beach. Together we mapped out an area to do a grid search. One area was square and then one at an angle towards the berm. Later he had said they were running along the berm for 3 lifeguard stations (about 3 hundered yards) we had already spent several hours by now and it was dark and threatening rain so I told him I would be back the next day to search. Thunder and lightning kept me away the next day. So I went out the day after and started at the far (300 yards away) end and came back to the area we had search 2 nights before. Since I still hadn’t found the ring, I expanded the original area by 10 yards and there it was, almost on top of the sand, the rain had washed off some of the sand and it was just shinning at me. Then I whipped out the Ol Cell Phone and made the call, just sitting here in my office, on the sand, looking at and listening to the waves hit the beach. Another tough day at my office, this is a great job.
