Lost 18k white gold and diamond ring has been found on Rottnest Island, Perth

November 16th, 2011 by

I headed off early this morning to Rottnest Island, which is about 20kms off the Perth coast.

Laura had contacted me as one of her friends had lost her ring after being dunked in the shallow water. I think they were celebrating her friends impending marriage so losing the engagement ring definitely wasn’t part of the celebrations. Laura was confident of the lost zone. I got details of the time the ring was lost and checked the local tide tables and it appeared the ring was lost at high tide and I was searching at low tide. Hopefully the ring might actually be out of the water.

Well the beach was littered with countless pulltabs and beer caps. This was an area that had probably never seen a metal detector so the amount of digging was unbelievable. I spent the next three and half hours gridding the area but the ring wasn’t revealing itself easily. I rescanned the area at 90 degrees and my final signal for the hunt was the ring! The glint of the diamond was the first thing I saw and what a great feeling it was too. I called Laura with the good news and then headed off to the Rottnest Hotel/Bar for a well deserved cold beer(s) as the return ferry was 4 hours away (most upset about that!).

Glad that today was successful as it wasn’t an easy hunt after all.

Tony.

Here is a quick picture and video of the find…

Lost wedding band found..!! Orangeville, Ontario.

August 8th, 2011 by

I received a call from Ben about a week and a half ago about his wedding band that had fallen off in his parents backyard pond.

Ben had been visiting his parents, and decided to do some work around the pond, like pulling out bullrushes and chopping down a tree on a large island in the middle of the pond. He used a floating, wooden dock to place the branches and bullrushes on then laid down on his stomach on the dock and used his hands to paddle to shore. After making a few trips across the water, he noticed his ring was gone.

That’s when I got the call from Ben.

He thought the water was only between 3-4 feet deep and that it would be an easy search for me. He then warned me about large leaches in the pond. Great..!!

We met at the house on Saturday August 6, 2011. What a beautiful home on a very large property..!!

The size of the pond is huge..!!!

As soon as I got into the water and stirred it up, the water turned to black ink. Also, it was a lot deeper than 3-4 feet near the middle.

Closer to 8 feet deep. After trying everything we could with no luck, we called it a day.  Ben asked me to call in a dive team and try again on Monday August 8th,2011. I said I would and left for home. I did not enjoy the drive. I hate leaving a search site with no results.

I returned on Monday August, 8th with John and Luigi, the divers, AWESOME divers..!! They are a father and son team. John is the father. After getting geared up, John entered the water and began to grid search in ZERO visibility as myself and Luigi grid searched the grass around the pond just in case the ring was not in the water.

After searching blind in the pond for over three hours, John pops out of the water with a huge smile, arms raised in a V and Ben’s ring on his thumb..!!! I told you they were awesome divers..!!

We then met with Ben at his work and gave him his ring back. He was very happy and extremely grateful.

So happy we got your ring back for you Ben..!!

I think I’ll take you up on that cold beer now……..

Also, thank you for the nice reward today.!

Take care,

Mark Ellis

Lost/Recovered 14kt Gold Diamond Engagement Ring Delaware Seashore State Park Bethany Beach, Del.

July 31st, 2011 by

On 07/31/11 @ 10:19 am, I received a phone call from a young lady who had lost her 14kt Gold Diamond Engagement Ring on the Beach at the Delaware Seashore State Park Bethany Beach, Delaware. The ring slipped off of her finger and fell into the dry sand while she was applying suntan oil. The sand had been searched for about one hour without any luck before I received the phone call. I arrived at the beach and found that the area of the lost ring had been marked with beach towels. I began my search and with three swings of the detector I received a familiar gold tone. I used my sand scoop to carefully recover the ring and as the sand filtered through my scoop the ring appeared. The young lady gave a cheerful yell as she said “He’s got it, I see it!”.  Another great recovery!

Lost Ring at Pismo Beach, California…Found!

July 30th, 2011 by

My most recent ring recovery occurred at Pismo Beach, California.  I was doing my own recreational search of some beach volleyball courts when a young boy came up to me and asked if I knew where his family could rent a metal detector to search for his mother’s lost ring. I told him that I provided a ring search service.  No place in Pismo rents metal detectors.

He led me to an area of the beach roughly the half the size of a basketball court that his family had scuffed up with their fingers trying to find the ring for apparently several hours.  The sun was setting and dusk was approaching.  I began searching the scuffed area and on my third pass, my White’s MXT rang out and the screen indicated ring.  I scooped my recovery tool deep into the sand and shook it out.  The lady’s beautiful and expensive ring, part of a matching set of earrings and bracelet she was wearing, was handed back to her.  The whole family was relieved and grateful. The husband gave me a reward for my service.  I wish I’d had a camera with me.  It was a beautiful and expensive ring.  This is why I joined Ring Finders.

Wedding ring found in back yard – Lakewood, Colorado

July 1st, 2011 by

Olivia Frank had lost her wedding ring in her back yard. The couple had searched the yard extensively without any luck. After 6 months of worry and frustration they found “Ring Finders” and through that my contact information. We made arrangements and set a meeting date for me to join them at their home for a brief talk and survey of the site.

My first trip to their house gave me the story of the rings loss and the layout of the yard. I managed to get in about three hours of search time before rain and snow drove me off the hunt site. I was certain that the ring was not in the portion of the yard they swore it in.

Upon my second trip to their house I went over the area that I had previously searched with two other detectors and no ring. I then expanded my search area and started running another search pattern. After another three hours of searching I ended up finding the ring several feet away from the expected location.

“Liv” was so excited and happy that she began to tear up when she got her hands on her ring again. It did need a good cleaning by a jeweler, but that is what happens when a ring is left to the elements for several months.

Ring recovered on December 4, 2010.
