Recieved a call today from a lady that had lost a custom made Ring 2 years ago on her farm property. The lady had heard of me through a card I had left at a rural jewelry store and she decided to give me a call and inquire about my service. I told her that even though the ring had been lost 2 years ago, I could still find it if it is indeed lost where she said it was lost. I agreed to give it a shot. I loaded up the equipment and headed off to Dugald Mb. The weather today is -3 celcius and it just started to snow a bit, the ground has been fairly frozen for 2 months now but we’ve had some temperatures hovering around 0 celcius and some plus temp as well. There should be a lot more snow on the ground and the temperature should be a lot colder for this time of year for sure.
I arrived on the property to meet the owner lady and she quickly showed me the area that the ring had previously been lost at. Approx. 30ft x 30ft area in question that I quickly grid out. turned on the Whites XLT to my gold setting and started swinging, 2 minutes later I got a signal of +38 on the XLT screen and I knew that I had located the lost ring. The screen read 3 inches deep but to avoid any scratches to the ring I dug 6 inches deep and wide and sure enough, out came the ring. What a beauty it was. I called the lady and presented her with my find. Her eyes grew like saucers and she was ecstatic. Another successful search chalked up. Now that “Old-man Winter” has blanketed Manitoba with a foot & a half of the white stuff, he also brought with him the “un-bareable” cold temps. (-25 C) This cold snap does not prevent the “die-hards) from taking walks in the parks or jogging, or heading to the dog parks to relieve fido! all in all, the cold temps make the fingers shrink and when the gloves are pulled-off, there goes the ring or rings. I had a guy contact me to tell me that at the dog park he had lost his sz.13 gold wedding band, he told that he had taken his gloves off several times to feed the 8 or so dogs that had grouped around his own dog. Problem was: he doesnt remember if he actually had the ring on when getting to the dog park. never the less; I drove out to the dog park to meet him after my work (5:30)pm temp was a frigged -18 C with a windchill of -28c I searched the area in question 3 times over with no luck, He had told me that the ring had been lost 2 days prior to my arrival on site. I continued searching to no avail and no luck until my feet and hands were near frozen. I re-traced the ”route” that he walked from his parked truck through the park around to the garbage can where he dropped his doggie Do-Do, and then across the parking lot back to his truck. Still no-luck! One thing I did notice was that the parking lot had very recently been plowed-up. I took a look around the parking lot to see where the loaders had piled the snow and made notice for a later date to search again. Do to the fact that you just cant go to a snow pile and start knocking it down to search for what you might think is in there, I’ll have to go back at nite time and do some searching with-out attracting any attention or creating a scene to ward getting kicked out permanetly. Winter in Winnipeg, you gotta love it or leave it. When the temps warm-up I will be back out there like the dedicated Detectorist I am to help look for lost Jewelry, and give back to the public what they thought was “Lost Forever”
After placing an add on kijiji in regards to the gold wedding band I had previously found at Grand Beach, Manitoba, I recieved an email this morning from a man that had lost a wedding band in early July at the same location. I answered the email to find that this person was able to describe to me in detail the ring that I had found. I made arrangements to meet with him at a local coffee shop and after he arrived and I showed him the ring, his eyes lit up and his hands started shaking. he could not believe that right there in his hand lay the “Wedding Ring” he thought he would never see again. We shook hands and now he was on his way home to “Surprize” his wife. I love a happy ending to a story!
I was recently out at Grand Beach Mb. to test out my new “Detector Pro” metal detector. This is what I do as a “Hobby and Service” I go and look for lost Rings and Jewelry. I was searching the West beach area in about 4 to 5 feet deep when my new detector gave me a loud signal. I scanned over this target a few times and started scooping the sand there below. the more I scooped the sand the louder the target became until I felt my scoop hit something solid. I scooped one last time and then the signal dissapered from under my detector, I new I had whatever it was down there now in my scoop. I washed away the sand from in my scoop and “low & behold” there in the bottom of my scoop lay a beautiful” Gold” mens wedding Band” I picked this ring out of my scoop and I must say it was not only beautiful, but also came off a large finger. Immediately, what came to mind is: there must be a devestated person out there who has lost this ring and I hope i can get it back to that person.
If you have lost a “Wedding band” or know of someone who lost their wedding band at “GrandBeach” Mb. Get in touch with the “Ring Finders” and lets get this ring back on the finger it belongs to!
I recently went out to a local beach to hunt for a 16yr. old girls pinky ring. The ring wasn’t an expensive ring but it was given to her by her father on her 16 birthday and she had lost it recently at the beach in the sand. The father had given me pretty good directions as to where it had been lost the day before so i headed out the next day. I made a grid twice the area of which the father had told me, but no luck finding the ring. what I did findout was that there was another detectorist searching that area of the beach the evening the ring was lost and he had probably found it. Hopefully if the ring was found by another detectoris, perhaps he will post it in the lost & found section of the local paper. There was no ring turned in to the beach authorities recently. I sent off an email to let the father know that I did my best but was unsuccessful.
Looking forward to my next hunt!
