Found First Gold Ring for 2012

On Thursday Jan. 12th I received a call from State Farm Insurance asking If I was the Ring Finder. The message was on my answering machine, which I saw when I got home from work. It was too late to contact State Farm then, so I had to wait until Friday morning.

I have an online Coaching school I am taking on Fridays and Saturday mornings. I am taking the Coaching class to be able to do Coaching and Consulting in the finding of Treasure. I have already used a lot of skills that I have learned in the recovery of Treasure. A couple things I have learned is to really listen what the client says and then asking important questions to make rcovery faster.

Back to State Farm insurance, of course, I thought that I would be looking for a large diamond ring. Because it was an Insurance claim I was thinking about asking a percentage of appraised value. So after I gave the claim # to the State Farm agent I preceded to ask questions about the ring. Of course, they were asking right away what I charged. When I found out that it was just a Gold Wedding Band (mans) I did not go with a percent fee. (was thinking of 10% to 15%). I went with .50 cents per mile and $30 per hour.

I learned at the coaching school that many Coaches get $25 to $50 per hour after they completed the basic course. Because I had successfully completed the basic and am now taking the intermediate course, I chose $30 per hour. And because I make 1/2 of my income in the treasure hunting field.

I went to the location in West Des Moines, Iowa and preceded to talk to Cameron. I had Cameron fill out The Ring Finders Search form, main reason was in case I found any thing else of value under the deck. Yes, I had to go under the deck, man was it a tight fit. Glad it is winter so I did not have to worry about Bugs and Spiders. I did put on a mask to protect my self from any air borne allergens as there was a lot of webs and dog hairs under the deck.

It was a good thing I had a Garrett Pro Pointer as there was not enough room to use a regular metal detector. I also had taken with was a flash light, lawn rake, garden rake, spade, hammer, cordless drill, and a large magnet( to pick up screws and nails under the deck. I worked under the deck for around 40 – 45 minutes, did find screws and nails, small pieces of siding, but no ring. Those rocks I was laying on started to feel like bolders. I decided it was time to take a break and ask a few more questions and to make sure the ring didn’t get stuck on top of the deck some where.

At that point I was introduced to Sarah, Cameron’s wife. I had Cameron show me again on how he was brushing the dog with his hand, when he had lost his ring. Then Cameron had to get ready to go to work so I continued to talk to Sarah. As I stood there, I thought it must be under the deck because there was no where else for the ring to go. Since where Cameron was brushing the dog there is the screened in part of the deck, I knew that when the ring hit the screen it would have bounced off of it and rolled back toward Cameron and fell through the deck.

As I was talking to Sarah, a slight breeze was blowing and the screen moved (it looked as if some time maybe a dog walked through the screen and loosened it). I noticed the screen move and I saw something on top of the deck inside the screened in part. I reached through the damaged screen and picked up the gold ring. Sarah said, “No that can’t be it on top of the deck!”

I handed the ring to Sarah and asked her if it was Cameron’s ring. She stated yelling for Cameron to come and see his ring.

Sorry Chris, couldn’t get a picture of a smile but I did get a picture of the ring. So maybe 2012 will be the year to find lots of Gold rings.

Found $2500 Hearing Aid

I got a phone from a gentleman who was frantic, he had lost his hearing aid the night before. With 12 inches of snow already on the ground and a new 4″ layer of fresh snow. When I arrived at their house I see someone had used a snow blower to blow the drive clean. I ask the usual questions What were you doing when the hearing aid was lost? Do you have another one I could look at?

Tom showed me his other hearing aid, the only metal was the battery and 2 very small screws. The detector I choose for the hunt was a Tesoro Tiger Shark. I would detector the hearing aid at about 2″. I also wanted to look at the hearing aid to know what I was looking for because I may see it with my eyes. Also I visualised what I was looking for in my mind which also helps in the recovery.

I looked al over the driveway and where the snow blower through the snow. No success. Is they any ohter place where you had gone. Tom replyed I did walk the dog. After about 1 1/2 hrs I did find the hearing aid where Tom had walked his dog. Right where he had to duck uder the clothes line is where the hearing aid was found.

Tom was so excited “You just saved me $2500″ He said he would have been ordering a new hearing aid on Monday if I had not found it. We took a few pictures and I was rewarded with a nice finders fee.
